General Description
Hundreds of Virgin Beaches, located in the State of Bahia, from the city of Salvador (the capital) to the North. The coast has several small towns or villages on the beach (population below 10K) which makes up two different areas. On the first part (80 miles from south to north) there are certain kind of tourism and building investments, where you can find international resorts and fine vacation houses. The northern part (70 miles) has not yet been developed, and is entirely an ecological reserve (see LINHA VERDE) In this ecological paradise, families have history, what really makes the difference. If you like to have a beach just for you, without people around, and want to feel part of the nature, you'll find your place here. Although from the economic point of view the region is poor, all towns and villages are well organized. There's a peaceful mood everywhere. Delinquency tend to dissapear as you get away from big cities, so people live here in an "open door" style.

Beaches
Words are not enough to describe the sensation you can experience combining the beauty and the calm of these places. Definetely, this is not a place to photograph, it's a place to stay! These are not the best beaches on earth, but the facts are:

- Beaches are safe and virgin

- The sea is a multi-blue colorfull show and the water is warm.

- On "Sitio do Conde", there is a concentration of a rare kind of therapeutic seaweeds,
great for skin treatments.

- The sand it's like magic powder.

- Coconauts are everywhere, hundreds of thousands of them offers
a magnificent and exotic look and feel.

- Seashores, rivers and their joining points offers a fishing paradise
for those who like the sport.

Building your Home
- One of the greatest things, is the possibility to build a house on sandy grounds,
right "on the beach", for u$s10 to u$s30 per sqft.

- Installing a pure water supply equipment is a 3day-non-expensive service
that you can easily contract.

- Estable weather gives the possibility to choose any kind of construction,
although fine materials are not a good idea for oceanfront houses
(just a 200 feet walk on the sand to take a swim).

- Instead of placing a fence around your Lot, you may prefer to surround it by
medium-size coconauts, paying much less than you expect.

- Energy is just there. If you buy a Lot on the beach far away from the Village, with no neighbors in thousands feet around, you may ask a local company to place an extension from the energy posts on the main inner road right to your door.

- Security is not a case, less than 5% of houses has security systems, and most of them don't even have bars on their windows. Maybe, if you live completely isolated, without dogs, and plan to leave your home closed for a long period, then you can think on something like "second windows".

- Telephone lines available in most places and lots. On isolated places cell phones and satellite dishes work fine.

- Cost of facilities (water, sewery, energy, etc) never reach 20% of total budget, even on small projects.

Roads
From the airport, you take a 40 miles standard route, with normal traffic conditions. Then, starts the LINHA VERDE (The Green Line), a magnificent ecological paradise with 110 miles of route in excellent conditions. In any day and time you can go from Salvador to the end of Linha Verde, in just 2 hours. Each town's entrance start with a sideroad from the route to the main street. This "internal" roads are safe and protect the precious "privacy" from crowds of occasional visitors.

Weather
Brazil's North East is well known as the dryness region. Sunny days in a year average 86%. Usually rains falls at night, and thunder storms almost never ocurred.
Get this: hurricanes simply doesn't exist.

Cool breeze day and night, is one of the most confortable features. Nobody needs air conditioning when staying in front of the beach. Between May and August, a night on the sea requires just a t-shirt; the rest of the year take a moonlight swim is great.

Tourism Today
Between Salvador and Praia do Forte (where the Linha Verde starts) foreign tourism represents less than 50%, and along the Linha Verde is yet much less. In June, January and Febrary, is hard to find a room. Each year demand for properties (to buy or rent) grows few points, and so the prices.

Region's Major Developments
The farest town highly developed is Porto Sauipe at the middle of Linha Verde. A Building Corp. started in 1997 a multi-million 15 year plan to construct 6 Resorts with International standards.

The Story
There is a county called Conde, formed by several villages. The most relevants, besides Conde itself, are Villa do Conde and SITIO do CONDE, the seaside place. On the XVIII century, in the area of these two places was the farm of the "Conde dos Arcos" (Count of Arcs). It is well known that the Count, his collegues and neighbours, used to live with their families in Villa do Conde and "visit" their "affairs" in Sitio do Conde. For many decades, this was a "tradition", an maybe that's why it remained separate from Villa with 3 miles of green meadows in between. Today, some women say laughing that tradition is still alive.
